How to keep your hair healthy

For the past 6-7 weeks, Ottawa has done a pretty wonderful job of social distancing. As we stay home we’re starting to see our true colours, right? And by true colours, we’re talking about hair, of course. Roots, anyone?

And since we’re all doing such a good job of staying apart, together, some of us may be running out of fun things to do. If you don’t want to be checking news updates 24/7, why not take a break from your feed and spend a few stress-free minutes thinking about your tresses.

Because we care about you and your hair health, we’ve compiled some hair info, tips, and tricks to get you through this stay-home period.

  1. Feel like you’re losing some strands due to Covid-19 related stress? Don’t be so sure. Losing 100 to 150 strands of hair a day is perfectly normal. So don’t panic when you see a few hairs in your shower drain.
  2.  To dry brush, or not to dry brush? That is the question. Ever wonder if it’s better to comb your hair when it’s wet or dry? Well combing your drenched locks isn’t the slickest idea when it comes to hair health. Wet hair should be combed with caution because hair is at its most fragile and prone to breakage when wet. To maintain your mane, take a broad-toothed comb and gently comb from roots to ends of dry hair.
  3. Feel like a home haircut is a good idea? Stop. Take a breath. And pick up the phone. Call us, we will be more than happy to walk you through trims and how to keep your hair healthy until we are able to see each other next

Most of all, do what makes you happy. Staying healthy and keeping your spirits up are of utmost importance, so take care of yourselves. Sometimes, in order to do just that it means curling up on the couch and waiting for your hair mask to set.

Be well, Ottawa.
