5 DIY Hair Masks to Try At Home

After months of staying home and staying safe, you’re probably craving an appointment with your hairstylist. Split ends, tangled strands, dryness—we’ve seen it all during quarantine. With all this time on our hands, there’s never been a better chance to try making your own DIY hair masks. Hair masks are a quick, yet highly effective way to provide your hair with tons of health benefits in less than an hour. And luckily, you don’t have to look any further than your own pantry!

Honey, Egg, & Apple Cider Vinegar Mask

If your hair is looking and feeling a little dry, this mask is a great hydrating treatment that nourishes and provides shine, without weighing your hair down. Simply combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl and leave in for 30-40 minutes before rinsing.

Ingredients: 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar.

Brown Sugar & Olive Oil Mask

The heat can sometimes leave your hair feeling dried out. Not to worry! Brown sugar is a great exfoliant for the hair that helps get rid of those dead skin cells from your scalp and any other leftover buildup. Mix the ingredients and leave in for 15-20 minutes and rinse well.

Ingredients: 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of olive oil.

Egg & Lemon Hair Mask

You’d be surprised at what an egg can do for greasy hair. Egg whites have protein enzymes that help remove excess oil. Combine and smooth over your hair from roots to ends and leave on for 30 minutes to an hour—the longer is better! Make sure to rinse with lukewarm water, not hot.

Ingredients: 1 egg white, juice from half a lemon.

Banana, Yogurt, & Honey Hair Mask

Is your hair in need of some conditioning? This treatment is full of natural oils, potassium, carbohydrates, and vitamins, which help lock in moisture and eliminate unwanted frizz. Blend the ingredients and apply to damp hair. Leave on for 30-40 minutes and rinse with your regular shampoo and conditioner.

Ingredients: 1 sliced banana, 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt, 1 tablespoon of honey.

Avocado, Egg, & Olive Oil Mask

Packed full of omega-3 fatty acids, this mask provides strength and shine for your hair. Apply to wet hair with your fingertips, starting at the bottom and working your way up. To help activate the ingredients, cover with a shower cap and blow dry for 10 minutes. Then let it sit and relax for another 20 minutes and wash out in the shower.

Ingredients: 1 egg, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and half an avocado.
