After months of staying home and keeping safe apart, you’re probably craving an appointment with one of our hairstylists. While we can’t open our salon doors to the public just yet, now’s the perfect chance to try your hand at making DIY hair masks. Hair masks are a highly effective way to take care of your hair while you can’t leave the house, and they’re also a fun activity to help pass the time. And luckily for you, you can probably find everything you need for them in your own kitchen pantry! Note: we’ve pooled these recipes from various websites and online sources.

Honey, Egg, & Apple Cider Vinegar Mask

If your hair is feeling a little parched, this DIY mask makes for a wonderful hydrating treatment that nourishes and provides shine without looking greasy. Simply combine all of the ingredients (honey, egg, and apple cider vinegar) in a small bowl and leave in for about 30-40 minutes before rinsing with water.

Ingredients: 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar.

Brown Sugar & Olive Oil Mask

The heat can sometimes leave your hair feeling depleted and dried out. Not to worry! Brown sugar is a great natural exfoliant for the hair that cleanses your scalp and removes any other leftover buildup. Mix the ingredients and leave in for 15-20 minutes and rinse well with water.

Ingredients: 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of olive oil.

Egg & Lemon Hair Mask

You’d be seriously surprised at what an egg can do for your hair. Egg whites have natural protein enzymes that work to fight excess oil buildup in your hair. Combine the ingredients together and apply to damp/slightly towel dried hair. Leave on for 30 minutes to an hour. In this case, the longer is better! Then rinse with lukewarm water (avoid hot water if possible).

Ingredients: 1 egg white, juice from half a lemon.

Banana, Yogurt, & Honey Hair Mask

Is your hair in need of some deep conditioning? This DIY treatment is full of natural oils, potassium , and vitamins from the banana, which help lock in some much desired moisture. Blend the ingredients together until smooth and apply to damp hair. Leave on for 30-40 minutes and shower off with your usual shampoo and conditioner.

Ingredients: 1 sliced banana, 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt, 1 tablespoon of honey.

Avocado, Egg, & Olive Oil Mask

Packed full of omega-3 and fatty acids, this DIY mask provides some much needed strength and shine for your hair. Gently apply to wet hair  – starting at the bottom and working your way up to the roots. To get the most out of this treatment, cover with a shower cap and let it sit from 20 minutes. Rinse out in the shower once finished.

Ingredients: 1 egg, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and half an avocado.
