Summer Hair Care Tips

Summer is finally here, and now more than ever, everyone is looking to get outside and enjoy the warm weather. But heat and humidity can sometimes wreak havoc on your hair. That’s why it’s important to give your hair some extra TLC and adopt a summer haircare routine.

Here’s how you can keep your hair healthy and gorgeous all season long!

Conditioning

The heat can often leave your hair dry and in need of moisture. Switching your conditioner to moisturizing formulas and using hair oils or serums on the ends will help revive dried out locks. Conditioning masks and leave-in conditioners will also give added levels of moisture.

Wash Less Often

While conditioning is key, it’s important not to strip your hair of its much-needed oils from too many washes. Extend the time between washings by using a dry shampoo. If you can’t go long without washing, lather up just your scalp and let the soap run through the rest of your hair.

Protect Your Hair

Always try to cover your hair as much as possible when out in the sun. A cool new hat is a perfect way to avoid direct sunlight. If you have coloured hair, make sure to also use hair care products specifically formulated with colour-protecting ingredients to help keep it from fading.

Be Mindful of Pools

A pool is a great way to cool off in the summer, but harsh chemicals can cause major hair damage. Start by washing your hair under cold water before you take a dip in the pool. By washing it with fresh water first you’re limiting the amount of damaging chlorine it can absorb.

Avoid Added Heat

Between the humidity and rising temperatures, summer hair is already parched enough without adding heated tools into the mix. Try out some natural styling techniques that add texture without using curling wands or hair straighteners.

Keep Up with Trimming

When hair dries out from the heat, it’s more likely to develop split-ends. By scheduling regular trims, you will help keep your hair looking healthier and feeling it’s best. Frequent trims will also keep your hair less tangled and prone to further breakage.
