Hair-Inspired Halloween Costumes

October 9, 2024by fadmin

Did you know that hair plays an important part in putting together a hauntingly good Halloween costume? The right hairstyle, haircut, or hair colour can be the perfect finishing touch to a Halloween costume, or in some cases, can even be the entire costume itself!

Our stylists at Fernandino want to help you come up with the perfect hair-inspired Halloween costume this year. Whether you’re looking for a Halloween costume for trick or treating, parties, school, or the office, we want to help you have a wicked good Halloween with these ten boo-tiful hair-inspired costumes!

1. Cruella De Vil
This popular dalmatian-stealing villain makes for a very chic Halloween costume. The key to pulling off a great Cruella De Vil costume is the hair. First, you’ll need to part your hair down the middle and style it by curling and teasing it for a wild, but still glamorous look. Then use a temporary hair dye and colour one side of your hair black and the other white. Pair this hairstyle with a faux fur coat, red gloves, and long fake cigarette and you’re done!

2. Spider Bun
Do you want a Halloween costume that’s on the more subtle side? You can create a spider  costume using your own hair. Pull your hair back into a high or low bun, depending on the length of your hair. Use either a gel or hair spray to create a slick back look and prevent any flyaways. Place four black pipe cleaners on either side of your bun. You can place these directly into your bun or secure them in place with bobby pins. You can even add fake cobwebs into your hair for an extra wow factor.

3. Barbie
Barbie is a great Halloween costume option for those with long blonde hair. In fact, there’s two costumes from the Barbie movie that you can choose from. The first is roller skating Barbie, where you pull your hair into a high ponytail with a pink visor. This costume can then be finished with a bright spandex outfit and roller skates (if you can safely wear them). The other costume is cowboy Barbie. Simply style your hair into long blonde waves and wear a cowboy hat and a pink cowboy outfit.

4. Taylor Swift
Was there anyone bigger this year than Taylor Swift? Channel your inner Swifie this Halloween by dressing as one of your favourite Taylor Swift eras. Whether it’s a glamorous dress, sparkly bodysuit, or an outfit she wore to the Super Bowl, all of these costumes come together with her wavy blonde hair and bangs with cherry red lipstick. Plus, this can also be the perfect couple’s costume if your partner dresses in a football uniform like Travis Kelce.

5. Brigerton’s Penelope Featherington
Travel back to the Regency era this Halloween by dressing up as Penelope Featherington from Netflix’s popular TV show Bridgerton. The key to pulling off this costume is the right Victorian-style dress (you can either thrift this or find it at a Halloween costume store) and glamorous curls. To really channel Penelope, you can pull one side of your hair back and pin it in place with an ornate clip. You’ll feel like a Princess all night long in this cute Halloween costume!

6. Beetlejuice
With the release of the long-awaited sequel, we think this is going to be the year of beetlejuice, beetlejuice, beetlejuice! You can either dress up as the iconic monster in a black and white striped suit and dye your hair with green temporary hair colour, or as gothy Lidia by wearing a red dress and gloves and styling black hair in a high bun half-do. Either costume is sure to give people pumpkin’ to talk about!

7. Audrey Hepburn
Audrey Hepburn is a gorgeous and easy Halloween costume if you find yourself strapped for time. All you’ll need to wear is a black dress and black sunglasses ala her character in Breakfast At Tiffany’s. The costume then really comes together by styling your hair like Audrey’s iconic bun. Pull your hair into a tight bun on the top of your head and place a tiara in front of it. If you have bangs, we recommend that you style them to the side.

8. Carrie
Do you want to dress up as someone scary for Halloween? Stephen King’s Carrie is a devilishly good Halloween costume if you have a light coloured dress that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty. Wear a prom queen sash and style your hair down either curled or straight. Finally, place a crown on top of your head and add fake blood (either store bought or homemade) to the top of your hair and run down to look like it’s been spilled on you.

9. Jessica Rabbit
Bring on the glamour this Halloween! Jessica Rabbit is known for her love of the colour red, from her lips, to her dress, to her hair. For those natural red heads or those wanting to colour their hair red this fall, Jessica Rabbit is the perfect costume for you. Her iconic hairstyle consists of long, luscious red curls. Finish the costume off with bright red lipstick and a beautiful red dress.

10. Billie Eilish
Celebrities always make for fun Halloween costumes, and maybe the most recognizable for their hair is Billie Eilish. If you have brown or dark hair, simply add bright green temporary hair colour to the roots of your hair. You can then style your hair down or pulled back into high space buns with face framing strands pulled out. Dress in oversized streetwear in matching green to complete your look.
