Many of us want to establish some kind of ‘routine’ as part of our New Year’s resolutions. This can fall anywhere from getting into a healthy morning schedule or reinvigorating our exercise plans. The beginning of a new year is also the perfect opportunity to start or revamp our hair care routines. So, if you want your hair to look and feel its healthiest in 2022, we’re here to help you come up with the perfect hair care routine.
Washing is key to good hair health and helps to remove unwanted things like dead skin and product buildup. It’s always best to wash your hair no more than three times a week. Keep some dry shampoo on hand for those days in between washes or if hair looks greasy. The goal here is to embrace your hair’s natural oils and moisture. All washes should also include a moisturizing conditioner that will help nourish and treat your hair after shampooing. We recommend Davines OI Shampoo and OI Conditioner. For the best results, massage the conditioner into your hair and leave it for a few minutes before washing with warm (but not too hot) water.
On top of your regular washing process, we suggest incorporating a deep conditioner into your hair care routine at least once a week. This not only helps keep your hair soft and shiny, but also prevents unwanted frizz, damage, and split ends. Leave-in conditioners are the most effective tools for maximizing your hair health. For even more moisture, we recommend trying serums like Davines OI Absolute Beautifying Potion or Davines OI All In One Milk.
Drying and Styling
Begin the drying process by soaking up any excess water with a microfiber cloth or towel–try not to rub your hair between the material. Then, detangle your hair by brushing it out with either a wide toothed comb or paddle brush. A quality blow-dryer with adjustable heat options is also a must have tool. Blow-drying is a great option for when you’re in a hurry but if you have time, try to let your hair air dry when possible. Limiting your hair’s exposure to heat helps restore the moisture you’ve worked so hard to get. Once dry, style your hair to your liking. Make sure to also apply a heat protectant if you’re using any wands or irons. For long-lasting wear, finish everything off with styling products like hair spray or Davines OI Hair Butter.
Any good hair care routine must also include regular cuts and trims. The frequency of your cuts will vary depending on your hair type, length, and style. That said, a good general rule is to cut your hair at least every six to eight weeks. This may come as a surprise, but cutting your hair more often actually allows it to grow faster and will give you healthier, stronger locks!
